Hope everyone had a restful weekend, and if we missed anything, let us know (kat@foboblo.com)!
Monday
- The Kennedy Center keeps the big events coming, starting off the week with the 9th Annual Metro DC Dance Awards. Starting at 6 pm on the Millennium Stage, there will be performances by Urban Impact, Maryland Youth Ballet, and the DC Cowboys , as well as the presentation of the award for Outstanding Achievement in Dance Education. These performances are free.
- But! For just $30 you can get a ticket to the big Metro DC Dance Award show in the Terrace Theatre. Hosted by Richard Move’s drag persona, Martha Graham, performances will be done by nominees and previous years’ award winners alike. The event will be 2 hours long.
- 600 Restaurant (600 New Hampshire Avenue, NW) is throwing a VIP reception and silent auction PREshow, and the bidding starts at 4:45 pm. Entrance to the reception is free, but you must RSVP (do so at csidwell@dancemetrodc.org).
Tuesday
- GWU: GWU’s only (?) improv comedy troupe, receSs, is holding auditions both Tuesday & Wednesday evening, 7 pm, in Betts Theatre. You don’t need anything prepared or to have any experience! Who knows, maybe you’ll end up in an awesome monster movie like receSs alum T.J. Miller, maybe you’ll start a short lived but generally entertaining blog, maybe you’ll birth a new art form, maybe you’ll attract groupies to drink the good beer with you at your huge parties. Maybe you can be one of those groupies. You’ll never know unless you audition. So go out there, give it your best, and take your shirt off!
Wednesday
- The Smithsonian Young Benefactors are holding a happy hour at the Darlington House (1610 20th Street NW) from 6 pm – 9 pm. Nonmembers are welcome, and the $10 suggested donation goes to the YB Culture4Kids Fund.
Thursday
- The Smithsonian American Art Museum (8th and F Streets NW) brings you a free concert by the Airmen of Note, the Air Force’s premiere jazz ensemble. I’ve seen the Airmen of Note several times, and they’re always awesome. For reals. So head to Kogard Yard at 5 pm for a free outdoor jazz concert.
- The Bottom Line will be playing host to Jack Daniels ladies, so expect samples, prizes, and girls in skimpy outfits. Specials on Jack drinks all night.
- The Millennium Stages brings two nights of Tehreema Mitha’s work Blue Jeans, a contemporary dance work that incorporates immigration, the symbolic status of blue jeans in American society, Western pop music, and North Indian classical music. Adorable.
Friday
- Today, Monday, 9/14, is the last day to register for the conference “Going for Broke? The Fiscal Future After the Economic Crisis,” hosted by the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Affairs and the School of Media and Public Affairs. Learn more about this star studded event (well, stars of the fiscal world and the world of government budgeting) on the event info page.

Wait, is it samples of girls in skimpy outfits? Are they the prizes? So many questions, so much medium-grade whiskey!
