Weekend To-Do List

A sleepy weekend is coming up, but get pumped, because FoBo basketball season kicks off Saturday. Too bad everyone I know is out of town (including your blogmasters).

Friday

  • St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (728 23rd Street, between H & G)  is having their annual bazaar Friday & Saturday, from 10 am – 4 pm both days. Expect to be able to buy delicious baked goods, arts & crafts, other doodads, and lunch and/or dinner.
  • receSs will be performing in Betts Theatre at midnight, and they have special guests: Your Ex-Boyfriends, from Penn State. Tickets are $3, and they only take cash. Try not to get kicked out for being too drunk.
  • Blue Pinto is performing at Tonic at 9 pm.
  • If you like nature or Eye Bar, then head to Eye Bar (1716 I St., NW), pay $20 to benefit the Alaska Wilderness League, get a free polar bear shot, and have a good time at their “Party for Nature: The Winter Benefit” event. Hosted by Sports for Nature and The Scene Bisnow.
  • Out of FoBo: If teaching little girls how to rock and roll is more like your kind of charity, pony up $20 at Eastern Market North Hall (225 Seventh Street SE) for a benefit concert for Rock as Ammunition, benefiting Girls Rock DC! and Guitars Not Guns DC. Performers include Tennis System, Shapiro, Memphis 59 and Spring Tigers! The show starts at 7 pm, and there’s free food and a cash bar. Buy tickets online here.

Saturday

  • Tonic is hosting their Student Loan Night (first Saturday of every month). You can bring in your student loan ticket, and whoever owes the most money gets a prize. If you enter, you could also win a raffle to get up to $250 of your loans paid for. And since you’re already broke-ass, there’ll be drink specials.
  • The GW Mens Basketball Team faces off against West Georgia in a start of the season exhibition game. The game starts at 1 pm, and all you need to do to get in for free is have your GWorld validated (ie, have a sticket put on it) at the Marvin Center Ticketmaster beforehand. Chances are though, they’ll let you in with GWorld alone. I hear this year the team won’t be abyssmal.
  • House of Sweden (2900 K Street, NW) is hosting a photography show titled “What Lies Beneath: Nature & Urban Landscape in EU Nature Photography.” It includes a list of photographers to long to list here, and includes work from a billion EU embassies. The exhibition opens Saturday.

Sunday

  • I got nothing. If you’ve got something, email me and I’ll do my best to feature it! If not, sleep it off.
