Well, if you can tear yourself away from hooking up in Gelman and studying for midterms, there is a ton to do this weekend. There’s drinking, cupcakes, concerts, and bike rides! Enjoy the burgeoning spring weather!
Friday
- The Madhatter (1321 Connecticut Avenue NW) reopens this weekend at 8 pm with drink specials and a party.
- Cupcakes continue their draconian rule over the city of Washington, DC by invading FLY Lounge (1802 Jefferson Place, NW). Head there tonight (or any Friday) to enjoy “Cupcakes & Cocktails” — artisan cupcakes and signature cocktails — from 10 pm to 12 am. No cover.
- GWU: Forbidden Planet Productions’ 4th Annual Musical Cabaret is this weekend. Featuring “9 musical numbers, 42 actors, & 12 directors,” the Cabaret is a greatest-hits show with songs from Gypsy, South Pacific, and Newsies. Friday has shows at 7:00pm, 9:00pm, and 11:00pm, and Saturday’s shows are at 8:00pm and 10:00pm. $5 suggested donation, Lisner Downstage. [Facebook Event]
Saturday
- Lisner hosts Pan-American Symphony Orchestra’s La CarmenTango. Heralding from Argentina, the Symphony brings 30 musicians and over 20 dancers who combine tango and ballet to tell the story of Carmen in a unique, never-before-seen way. Student tickets available. [Ticketing]
- If you’re planning some shopping, stop by Betsey Johnson in Georgetown from 11 am to 8 pm to celebrate the release of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. There will be tea party themed refreshments, and 15% off all evening dresses all weekend. Or pop into the Georgetown mall for some champagne to celebrate the opening of Simply Soles from 1 pm to 5 pm.
- Mackey’s Pub (1823 L St NW) wants to help you kick off the 9th Annual Leprechaun Lap Bar Tour. Enjoy super drink specials from 1 pm to 9 pm, register from 1 pm to 6 pm, and get free gear. Cost is $10 with 2 cans of food, benefiting Manna Food Center, $13 without donation. [Eventful]
Sunday
- GWU: The GW Music Department presents “Hail Alma Mater,” a concert celebrating 50 years of the department’s existence. The concert features pieces performed by the GW Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Troubadours, and University Singers, culminating in a combined showcase performance. The concert starts at 3 pm in Lisner Auditorium, and is free. [Facebook Event]
- House of Sweden invites you to join them in celebrating Sweden’s ski race & festival, Vasaloppet. But instead of skis, they want you to bike! With the House of Sweden being the starting point, cyclists can duplicate the 56-mile Vasa race noncompetitively through a selected route through NW DC and Montgomery County, MD. There are also shorter rides for the less adventurous riders. There will be blueberry soup at the end! RSVP recommended, $5 donation recommended.
