You Won David Sedaris Tickets!

Well, to be clear, you won David Sedaris tickets if you’re Kristen S. who left the comment:

During my freshman year of college my parent’s went through a rough divorce, and it was up to me and my brother to referee their marathon fights and fits during the whole tumultuous period.

It was that winter, right around the holidays, when everything got bad. The whole Christmas season seemed to exacerbate the situation. I was away at school when things started to get worse, and my brother felt like he had nowhere to go to escape it all.

One December weekend he called me in a fit of hysteria, telling me he could not take it anymore, so I invited him up to stay with me at college. That was about the same time I picked up a copy of David Sedaris’s Holiday’s on Ice at a former English teacher’s recommendation. That weekend we sat in and read story after hilarious story in my dorm room, sometimes him reading aloud to me while I studied for finals.

For awhile it seemed like nothing could ever be funny to me or my brother, but Holiday’s on Ice seemed to break the tensions that tightened inside my Brother and I. My brother went home that weekend calm and collected, and with my copy of the book. His happiness seemed to cool our parent’s off a bit, and that Christmas turned out to be not so bad.

Although her story is pretty ridiculously compelling and would be a good reason to win on it’s own merit — we DID select the winner randomly by assigning a number to each valid comment and then selecting a random number. Then we confirmed she’s a Facebook Fan, which of course was necessary to win.

Kristin, you should have received an email from us by now, too, and you’ve got until Monday to claim your tickets.  Congratulations!

Free David Sedaris Tickets (Last Chance)

Don’t forget!  Today is your last chance to win free David Sedaris tickets.  The competition ends at 5pm (est) tonight.   You’d be seriously dumb to not enter.  Seriously.

For the rules and to enter, click here.

You can Still Win David Sedaris Tickets

Our big give-away has been running for a week and we’ve got…. an embarrassingly small amount of entries.  Good news for people who have entered though, they have a comically good chance at winning the 2 free 3rd row tickets to David Sedaris on 10/7 in Lisner Auditorium.

You can still enter to win here.

In case you’re not familiar with David Sedaris, he’s the author of such books as Naked, Me Talk Pretty One Day, When You Are Engulfed in Flames, and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim.  He’s also a frequent contributor to NPR, and is generally freaking hilarious.

Check out this audio clip below for a sample of his hilarity, via Salon.com.

Win David Sedaris Tickets!

We’ve got two 3rd row tickets to David Sedaris on October 7th at Lisner Auditorium. And you can win them!

We’ve talked about this event featuring the author/orator/humorist David Sedaris before. These tickets are sold out to the public, and only a few remain for GWorld-card-carrying students. They’re selling online for up to $250, but you can get them for free.

Here’s how.

1) Only our Facebook fans can win, so make sure to become a fan if you’re not already.

2) Leave a comment on this post telling us why you want to win.

3) Make sure to enter your real email address when you’re filling out the comment form (that’s how we’ll contact you.) No need to put your email address in the actual comment though.

4) The competition ends Wednesday, September 30th, at 5pm (est)

5) We’ll announce a randomly selected (and facebook-fan confirmed) winner on Friday, October 2nd.

Remember, you can only enter once, so no need to comment again and again. Also, all new commenters need to be approved before their comment will appear (spam control!), so if this is your first time doing it with us, be patient. It can take some time for us to get to it and hit “approve.”

——

UPDATE: To be clear, the winner will be selected randomly.  As in, every person who enters gets assigned a number and then we’ll use a random number generator to pick one.  (We’ll do our best to remove all duplicate entries.)  If that person has followed our rules and is a fan on Facebook, we’ll contact them via the email address provided and will work out how they’d like to receive their tickets (mail or in person.)  The winner gets both tickets.  Otherwise it would be like winning a blind date to David Sedaris, courtesy of FoBoBlo.  Which would just be weird.

Excellent Student Tickets Still Available for David Sedaris’ 10/7 Show at Lisner

david-sedaris_lBig news: David Sedaris will return to the Lisner Auditorium on Wednesday, October 7 at 8 p.m. for a lecture, question and answer session, and book-signing.  Tickets for the general public sold out within a half-hour when they went on sale back in May, but some of the discounted tickets reserved for GW students are still available.  As a matter of fact, Co-FoBoBlo blogger JareBear and I bought Orchestra tickets in the third row just a hour ago (sorry, Kat).

Sedaris is famous for his bestselling collections of short stories, most of which are about his own experiences, though he has acknowledged that he occasionally takes some liberties with the truth.  He speaks at Lisner about once a year, and typically reads new material as he refines it before publication.  His work is consistently hilarious and at times very moving, and seeing him read his work in front of an audience adds to the experience.  I highly recommend going to this show.

For GW students, Orchestra tickets cost $20 each, and Terrace tickets cost $15 each. Tickets can be purchased at the Lisner box office, and only one ticket can be sold to each person with a GWorld card present.  Therefore, to buy two tickets, two GW students and their two GWorld cards must be present.

If you go to the Lisner box office in the near future and find that tickets have sold out, it will probably be worth trying again at a later date. Some student tickets will not be put on sale until late September, and more seating might be added at a later point.

The Lisner Auditorium at the George Washington University is located at 730 H Street, NW.
