Weekday Roundup (08/03-08/07)

Welcome to the first full week of August!  This is pretty much last real month of Summer, so make sure you fully enjoy it.  The students aren’t back at GW just yet, but that doesn’t mean Foggy Bottom is a ghost town.  So get out there and see some of the goodies going on this week.

Monday (08/03)

  • The last screening in a summer of Elizabeth Taylor, the National Theatre (1321 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW)  will be playing “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?” Watch Mike Nichol’s deft direction of celebrity super couple Taylor and Richard Burton as they tear through the film adaptation of Edward Albee’s play. Try to come early, as tickets are free but required, and are handed out half an hour before the film begins. The showing starts at 6:30 pm and is sure to be packed (it won five Academy Awards, after all).
  • Speaking of Freer & Sackler Galleries, don’t forget to buy your advance ticket to Asia After Dark! Jumping on the late night museum trend, the first AAD was in June and the next will be on September 3rd, with advanced tickets going on sale today!
  • Tonight is also the penultimate Screen on the Green, so if you’re ready to do the HBO dance, head over to the Mall for On the Waterfront.

Tuesday (08/04)

  • Becky’s Fund, an organization devoted to domestic violence awareness and prevention, is hosting a happy hour at Teatro Goldini (1909 K Street NW). From 6pm – 10pm, there will be free hors d’œuvres,  discounted Bellini cocktails ($10), $8 glasses of wine, and $5 Miller Lights.

Wednesday (08/05)

  • The Park Hyatt Washington (1201 24th Street NW) is holding its last Canines and Corks happy hour, where pet owners can bring their dogs, hang out, and drink on the outdoor grounds of the hotel. $10 gets you in and two drink tickets, and water bowls and doggie treats will be provided. Some proceeds will go to the Washington Humane Society. This event is perfect if you own a dog or just love dogs.
  • Artomatic’s monthly (first Wednesday of every month) happy hour is at Science Club (1136 19th St NW), so relive your fond Artomatic memories by drinking, 6 pm – 10 pm. There’s also a facebook event.

Thursday (8/06)

  • Asia Trash! at 7 pm, screening weekly Asian cult and horror movies at the Freer Gallery of Art. This week’s is The Host. There is a pre-movie tour at 4:30 pm, and all tour participants get two free movie tickets. (This event is $4, btw).
