Alright, let’s begin with a simple poll. Raise your hand if you’re a This American Life fanboy/girl. I imagine most of you have your hands up. If you don’t know it, check out the show (and free podcast) here. It’s some of the best storytelling you’re ever likely to come across, and you’ll find yourself fascinated by stories you would think would bore you.
Once you’ve gotten that under your belt, there’s a couple shows you ought to get tickets to. Lisner Auditorium will be hosting readings by TAL alums David Sedaris and Sarah Vowell this Fall, and you can get tickets now.
Let’s be honest: the businesses of DC are simply holding their collective breathes to see if there’s going to be another snow-mergency in the next few days. Parties and events are diminishing as the snow piles up and turns into black ice.
Next week kicks off a month of fabulous flamenco shows at Lisner Auditorium as part of the 10th Annual Flamenco Festival. Each performer showcases direct-from-Spain performer(s), and we’ve partnered with Lisner to give you, dear readers, a chance to win tickets to the kick off show, Gala Flamenca, on Tuesday, February 9th, at 8 pm.
Gala Flamenca features Pastora Galván, Manuel Liñán, Belén López, and Rocío Molina, each bold and modern dancers who have achieved world fame and praise. Learn more on the Lisner event site.
There are two ways you can win a pair of tickets:
Simply comment on this post saying you’d like to win! Just make sure you enter your correct email address where prompted so we can contact you if you win. Don’t be comment shy!
Tweet or ReTweet this exact message: “Hey @FoBoBlo – I want to win free flamenco tickets. RT or see http://bit.ly/bbIeLr so you can win too!”
Competition ends Monday, February 8 at Noon. We’ll announce winners on the blog that afternoon. Hurry up and enter! (And yes, you can enter both ways, but you can only win once!)
The winners will be selected randomly. Every person who enters gets assigned a number and then we’ll use a random number generator to pick one. One winner will be selected from comment entrants, a different winner will be selected from Twitter entrants. We’ll contact the winners via the email address provided, or through direct message on Twitter. Each winner will receive two tickets.
Well the entire area around Lisner is packed with people waiting to see MO speak. The whole area seems a bit chaotic (and it’s still a while before she speaks) and the entrance to my office is blocked off by the masses.
Let us know if you’re going to see her! And for all of you who didn’t get tickets, well, FoBoBlo has a nice second-best….. this video is probably better than anything she’ll ho-hum about anyway.
Welcome to another artsy week in DC, with some gorgeous weather forecasts for today & tomorrow. Enjoy your indigenous North American tribesperson summer while it lasts. I hope you love the arts. DC loves the arts...inside.
