Another FoBo business will be closing its doors soon. The Black Rooster Pub (1919 L St. NW) was established in 1970, and is currently owned by former employee Jody Taylor, who has worked there since 1972 (spooky parallels?). While trying to establish a new lease, Taylor learned that the building’s landlord had offered his space to the Peace Corps, who accepted. The Black Rooster must be closed by October 16th, and vacated by November 3rd. In an attempt to raise awareness of their plight and to celebrate one last hurrah, the Pub is holding a rally on Monday (Oct. 12th) night, starting at 5 pm. Representatives from Flying Dog, Magic Hat, Sam Adams, and Otter Creek breweries will be there handing out free stuff, and save $1 on any of those beers while there.
In flyers being handed out this week, the Black Rooster Pub encourages people to “further the word via Facebook, contact your local newspaper, then email that DC blog you’re always reading, AND Tweet this! If they speak, make them listen and tell them about what’s going down on L St.” They also promise “rebel [sic] rousing antics” at Monday night’s event.
