Secondly, a quick thanks to Dan Steinberg at the DC Sports Bog for the mention of the rivalry today. The more we can get this out there, the better chance it has of becoming a real rivalry. You can read his post here.
Now to today’s debate: the pep bands. This is an issue that is near and dear to my heart, as an alumnus of GW’s Colonial Brass. It’s hard for me to be unbiased here, but I will do my best. And I’ve got good reason. The Green Machine is a fantastic pep band. They were voted (by fans) the best band in the CAA last year, and they’ve got some fantastic songs. I will never forget being at the Verizon (or was it MCI then?) Center for the 2006 Elite Eight game of GMU v. UConn, and listening to the student body sing “Livin’ on a Prayer” with the band. It was incredible. So I’ve got tons of respect for them. And check out this video of them playing Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.” They’ve got VIOLINS in the band. Awesome.
